Our Mission and Purpose
Asians & Friends Atlanta, LYC is a social group of individuals who gathers for friendship, social functions, educational activities and more. We currently have no membership dues but we do request that those interested join our email distribution list so that they can receive periodic newsletters and announcements for special events. Our mission is to:
  • Foster an increased understanding between LGBT Asians and non-Asians;
  • Promote a sense of community among LGBT Asians and non-Asians; and,
  • Develop friendships through cultural, social, and educational activities.

Community Events of Interest

1.The Public Attitude toward Homosexuality in China by one of the most outspoken voice for gay people in China, Dr. Li, Yinhe. On November 4, 2009 afternoon in Georgia State University, event location and time to be announced soon. The speech is in Chinese and with English translation: This event is organized by Atlanta Chinese Writers Club Dr. Pan, Asian Research Center of Georgia State University Dr. Douglas R. Reynolds and Dr. Kim Reimann

2. “Sex in Wang, Xiaobo’s Writings” (Wang is Dr. Li’s Husband, whose novels deal with both gay and straight sex topics) On November 7, 3pm, Northeast Spruill Oaks Library. 9560 Spruill Road, Johns Creek, GA  30022

Dr. Li is currently is a researcher and professor in National Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In 2003, 2005, 2006, for three times, she introduced legalize gay marriage bills in the National People's Congress, which is the highest state body and only legislative house in China. Dr. Li was born in 1952 in Beijing, from 1974 to 1977 studied in University of Shanxi. 1982 came to the USA to study and received her Sociology PhD in University of Pittsburg. Her major publications include “Sex and Marriage in China” “Their world, a look into the gay community in China” and so on. Wang Xiaobo (Chinese: 王小波pinyin: Wáng Xiǎobō) (May 13, 1952April 11, 1997) was a Chinese writer who became famous after his death.
